You may or may not know this, but I used to draw sexy fantasy art. Now, I draw lazily-glorified stick figures picking their noses...and I feel fulfilled by this.
In some ways, I consider myself to be a fantasy-based artist, still...I STILL draw mermaids, and unicorns, and dragons, and I STILL love them. It's just a matter of style, which I feel is far more personal now with the cartoons and the comic...and, I am a twisted kind of gal.
Dorkling began as a random sketching up of some funny conversations/interactions/observations, and quickly became a way for my introverted ass to deal with, and ultimately appreciate, society. It is a vehicle for my random thoughts, it is an outlet for my perverted moments, it is the $20 randomly found in a coat pocket (but usually only if one is not really desperate for cash). Essentially, I am a dork, and I take pride in that, and I like laughing, and I like to hear other people laughing, and I like run-on sentences, too. I feel they convey my excitement adequately.
From some sort of half-baked technical standpoint, I would definitely lean toward an adjective similar to "lazy" in describing the art style. My focus remains on expression and body language, which have always been the truest part of any story to me. Plus, I just need the practice. After initial thumbnails are sketched up for the idea, I re-draw them larger in pencil, then I ink everything. Coloring generally happens digitally, and with little effort for shading or fancy details. Like I said, I like to keep it simple.
I guess that's pretty much it. If you have questions, you are more than welcome to post them here or email me.
xo!
