Taxi Cats- an Art Post

Today, I have a new illustration to share- this is my "large" art for February, and it's really quite bizarre...

"Taxi Cats" is a strange, dream-like image of a bunch of randoms- kitties, a catty cabbie in her yellow taxi, cupcakes... While I was in the process of coloring this piece, one of my friends asked me who the commission was for- it is just so specific, he thought surely it was ordered by a person for a purpose. So...I present to you "Taxi Cats":

Some specs on this illustration- measures 11" x 8.5", mixed media: acrylic paints, archival inks, and colored pencils on bristol. Signed, dated, titled on the back. "Taxi Cats" is currently up for auction on eBay. To view the auction listing (more pics, a blurb, a chance to make a bid) just click on the photo above or the link directly under it :)

Okay, it is pretty much my bedtime, so I will bid you all adieu...

Yelling in the Woods- an art post

Ahoy hoy...hoy hoy hoy...
HOY!

Anyway...This is an art post. If you were looking for comics, you have to wait until Thursday. Or go browse all the old (and still hilarious) comics on the blog. February's large cartoon painting is a remake of a tiny illustration I made a few years ago- "Yelling in the Woods". I loved the title so I am keeping it the same for this piece.
Two lowbrow bunnies, yelling in a candy-colored forest. Yes, I have heard the shrieks of a rabbit before. I have a cat. No, they are not cute or adorable noises. They are horrifying and not at all something candy-colored forests should have happening in them. But just pretend like this is a make believe cartoon land (because it is) and imagine that these particular bunnies are making the kind of cute yelling noises that we all wish they would.
So, here is a picture of "Yelling in the Woods", and below that is the link to the eBay auction :) Should the auction end with nary a bid (as they often tend to do), I will be housing this piece in my etsy shop ;)

In other art-related news, I have TWO new ACEO card prints that have just been released- "High Top Fade" and "Water Wings". They are both available for purchase HERE on eBay or HERE through my website See pictures? See pictures:

Okay. That's enough art stuff for one day. I will be back later in the week with a new comic. Thank you for looking. Seriously. If you are looking, you are awesome. If you want to TELL me you are looking, you are EVEN more awesome. Seriously. It's not like I know if you are or not. Unless you tell me. xo! Em

Water Wings- an Art post

Art time, y'allssss!!

So, I know that the focus of this blog is my comic strip, but the comic strip does not actually bring in any income (that's right, ZERO income, I simply do it for the love of making fun of things). Therefore, I am being forced by my boss-lady (her name is the same as mine!) to post a write up about each new piece of art that I create. So, here is 2015's very first dorkling/zombietoes original creation- "Water Wings"!

Click here to see the auction/read the blurb/view more pics/make a bid(?)

"Water Wings" is a strange piece, if only that it took me ten seconds to come up with the concept, and four months to turn it into a painting. The most hilarious part of this whole process (to me, anyway) is that this painting looks 100% NOTHING like the idea that it originated from. There were moments where all I wanted was to paint over it and start it all over...but I'd get halfway through whitewashing the shit, and then start a whole new layer...before the last one was even fully covered. Each layer was nowhere near what I wanted, so I kind of gave up on creating the original concept art on this canvas, and just let this painting happen. It's hard being such a control freak half the time, and a flighty artist the other half. It's constant self compromise. This explains my moody nature, to a point, but I digress... I am confident that someday I will create the piece that this one was meant to be. That day, however, is not today, so I hope you enjoy this bizarrely cute pirate ship bird instead :)

And just so you know, I've already ordered ACEO prints of this piece to be listed on eBay and my fancy schmancy website shop ;) Larger prints and posters will also be available shortly.

(And also just so you know, sharing links is just as awesome and helpful as making an art purchase. Plus, it's free to do, makes me smile, and I will count that as your good deed for any day you feel like good-deeding some dork such as myself.)

Don't forget to come back on Thursday for a new comic!! :D

This One's on Me

So, this is me slacking off again. I just drew this a half hour ago in my sketchbook. Lacking the ambition to color it in. Sometimes, it's a hell of a lot more work to color these things digitally. But...this is kind of what they look like before I clean them up. A present for you- behind the scenes. Haha. Ain't I swell?

In other news, I have acquired the domain name zombietoes, and am working on an official website for this comic and all my cartoon art and stuff. Also, slowly working on a zombietoes zazzle shop for prints and products of my illustrations and paintings. :D And other things. Lots of other things.
I have to go eat something cold. Okay, ice cream. I have to go eat ice cream now.

And don't forget about the etsy shop, it's got a bunch of new photos with a fun new background! And reduced prices on some things! Yaaay! zombietoes.etsy.com

Cartoon Ocean Art- Tad, Fish Hands, and Burt

Hallo! This is not a comic post...and for that I am sorry, but Christ on a crucifix, I cannot be funny ALL the TIME!!
*ahem* THIS post is about ART! CARTOONS! Dorky pictures I drew and would like to share with you! :D

Today's theme: the ocean! Why? I have been fascinated-verging-on-obsessed with the ocean for as long as I can recall. The quaint-looking (but wicked harsh) New England seaside is one of my first memories. Also...Puff the Magic Dragon lived by the sea...and we all know how I love me some magic dragons! But seriously, the most compelling reason, for me, to love the ocean is all the UNKNOWN out there. Out there, under the water that covers MOST of our planet. Think about it. Whoa, man, right? Of all the weird creatures my imagination could conjure up, there is something EVEN weirder lurking right next to us, but we just can't see it.
Anyway, enough rambling, how about some pictures? Three of my lowbrow water critter illustrations for you to feast your eyes upon:

"Tad"

Tad is all alone, totally lost, and extremely socially awkward (but has a heart of gold). He also looks pretty dern tired if you ask me.
The original painting is HERE
open edition 8" x 10" prints are HERE.

"Fish Hands"

I...don't even know. I just do not know.
The original illustration is HERE
I do not have prints available at this time, but if you want to nag me about it, feel free ;) Uh, actually, make sure you gauge my mood before you start the nagging. (Just some advice from a fickle person.)

"Burt"

Burt wants you to know what he's talking about... But he's not actually speaking, because this octopus has no mouth! Hope you can read eyelids...
The original illustration (framed!) is HERE!
I do not have prints of him available yet, either, but again with the nagging thing...feel free.

So, those are some of my arts. I will do more of these posts in the future, perhaps one a month? Why am I asking you? :P I hope you've enjoyed the display :) Tell you friends, tell your mom. <3

LOZT

This week's comic is a full hand colored illustration! A bit astray from the regular Dorkling themes, but take it as a peek into my imagination, if you will:

Should you have an interest in owning the original artwork (12" x 9", ink, acrylic, paint on bristol, $60 + shipping), please email me... Otherwise it will be going up in my zombietoes shop in the next week ;)
