Man Hands

So...yeaaaaah...I have picked up a part time job at a local video rental store...and that means Customer Service, which I really am just no good at...But it's good practice in maintaining my "social" side.

This is pretty much my "Happy Valentine's Day" to you all. Please don't get all creative with your compliments, a simple, classic "You look nice today" will suffice. Why make things more painful and awkward than they already are?

Landry

Well.
I'm not sure how to open this post.
So I'll just go at it:

Lost some folks in April.
The loss of this particular individual touched me deeper than I thought it would, perhaps because of the timing- please read.

Yours is the very first name in my phone contact list. I only ever called you when you were super late to work...which was often enough that I would bother to save your number.
You always greeted me with one of two things- "Hey Creepy!" or "Hey Gorgeous!"- equally hilarious and fitting. Of course, this is how you greeted most people. Still, it had its charms.
I never spent any time with you outside of work. I wouldn't say we were friends, though we got along well enough. You knew every word to every song ever written, and who sung it, what year, who the hell the drummer was, how many covers were made, and by which singers...you knew so much goddamn music trivia. Why you were never a radio station DJ is beyond me. I once had to go home and look up "Eiffel Tower" because I got trapped in the walk-in with you and Tron for, like, ten seconds one day. I also remember the time a bottle of grenadine flew off the shelf at you and smashed on the floor. We talked about ghosts a lot, which is a strange thing to reflect on now, but then again...it really isn't.
I'm not going to sit here and blather on about all the good things you did and whatever, because, like I said...I never really knew your life. I only knew you- the flail scene, the joker, the risk taker, the hungover, the really pissed off, the kind of pissed off, the reckless, loving living a little too much, the clean, the dirty...the Landry. I do choose to remember you fondly, however, because...people like me need to have the influence of people like you.

Because I had to take some time off work for another death (in the family) I would REALLY EXTRA appreciate any patronage these days! Please don't think this is some sick marketing ploy, it is more like...it is my FIRST job to take care of the people I love when they call on me, and sometimes that means calling out of work, and suffering a bit financially. zombietoes.etsy.com

Cartoon Ocean Art- Tad, Fish Hands, and Burt

Hallo! This is not a comic post...and for that I am sorry, but Christ on a crucifix, I cannot be funny ALL the TIME!!
*ahem* THIS post is about ART! CARTOONS! Dorky pictures I drew and would like to share with you! :D

Today's theme: the ocean! Why? I have been fascinated-verging-on-obsessed with the ocean for as long as I can recall. The quaint-looking (but wicked harsh) New England seaside is one of my first memories. Also...Puff the Magic Dragon lived by the sea...and we all know how I love me some magic dragons! But seriously, the most compelling reason, for me, to love the ocean is all the UNKNOWN out there. Out there, under the water that covers MOST of our planet. Think about it. Whoa, man, right? Of all the weird creatures my imagination could conjure up, there is something EVEN weirder lurking right next to us, but we just can't see it.
Anyway, enough rambling, how about some pictures? Three of my lowbrow water critter illustrations for you to feast your eyes upon:

"Tad"

Tad is all alone, totally lost, and extremely socially awkward (but has a heart of gold). He also looks pretty dern tired if you ask me.
The original painting is HERE
open edition 8" x 10" prints are HERE.

"Fish Hands"

I...don't even know. I just do not know.
The original illustration is HERE
I do not have prints available at this time, but if you want to nag me about it, feel free ;) Uh, actually, make sure you gauge my mood before you start the nagging. (Just some advice from a fickle person.)

"Burt"

Burt wants you to know what he's talking about... But he's not actually speaking, because this octopus has no mouth! Hope you can read eyelids...
The original illustration (framed!) is HERE!
I do not have prints of him available yet, either, but again with the nagging thing...feel free.

So, those are some of my arts. I will do more of these posts in the future, perhaps one a month? Why am I asking you? :P I hope you've enjoyed the display :) Tell you friends, tell your mom. <3

If you have never seen this movie, then this will probably not make ANY sense to you...and also, WTH is WRONG with you?! It's a great (and family friendly) movie.

Dorkling 2013 Wall Calendars!!

I cannot believe I pulled this off. I AM a magical unicorn magician lady. Yes, listen to me toot my friggen horn. I worked my patookah off. I must say, I am proud of myself, especially because I believe the material is solid.
What the hell am I talking about, anyway? A calendar! A Dorkling 2013 Wall Calendar to be exact! Let me blab about this for a minute...I just spent three days essentially by myself, eating whatever bugs crawled onto my desk, not sleeping, listening to waaay to much terrible music, so...forgive my excitement. ;)
ALL the art featured in this calendar is NEW- as in, I completed it THIS MORNING. It has been viewed by no one, and published nowhere but in this wall calendar. (I might make prints at some point down the road). But it's okay- you don't have to buy a copy to see the art! You can scroll through all the months and see each image at the link below the picture. Now, a word to heed- YES, I am allowing 100% free viewing of all my art, comics, and various other forms of entertainment. YES, sharing my work for free is my choice- sharing has always been my top priority with my work. HOWEVER...it would be *awfully sporting* of you if you would consider making a purchase (of my calendar or from one of my shops). Don't do it out of pity- I hate that crap! If you see something you like, though, and you have money, why not buy it? It's a huge compliment to me, and extremely helpful to my art and comic life. Alls I'm sayin is someone's got to feed the court jester, she can't dance on an empty stomach! ;) The calendar:

Self Sabotage

This...this is a comic I had drawn up months ago, but was hesitant at the time to post it. Now...well...I just don't give a fuck.

I know I should just delete those 'trouble' numbers, but I don't, and I probably won't. Sad.

I am Jack's Monday

This week I have decided to try something a bit different...I am going to post one comic a day! I will tell you that it's a bit of a cop-out, though, as it won't really start to make sense or be very funny until a few days in. Just fair warning. One joke spread over seven days. It's essentially a stylized look at my work week. The entire 'strip' is titled "I am Jack's all work and no play"...Here is Em's Monday:

Working on compiling a list of some other things (comic related, Emily related, art related, etc) to blather about here...If you have any suggestions, send me a message of some type. Email, text, smoke signals, whatevers.

Runcible Reality

This week's comic is of a literary nature...(ooh, fancy!)

So, the background on this piece- This is a different, and visual, version of Edward Lear's nonsense poem "The Owl and the Pussy Cat". Additionally, the word "runcible" was made up, and used frequently, by the author (mainly as an adjective, but there is no designated meaning for it). So, yeah, there, I just explained away my joke to the point of humorlessness. I just want you to know that I do actually read and tyhink about things other than work and myself. It doesn't happen often, though. ;)

I should also note that this is a full color illustration comic, and is available for purchase RIGHT HERE in my zombietoes shop! Save it from the zombies, they haven't had any flesh or brains in so long, they are turning to my comic art!! AHHH!!

If the Shoe Fits

I've been in an effed up fairy-tale mood lately...weird.

Up to my eyeballs in projects, all flat surface area in my studio is covered, some things are stacked precariously, I've even set up a drying line complete with clothes pins in my bedroom...came in handy today when the drier crapped out on me. :\ Of course, said line being used for clothes drying put a damper on my production levels...fuh. It's always something.

A Song For Jordan

On occasion, we like to serenade each other at work...

So...I have ordered a new batch of prints, which I will be posting for sale very soon (I have said this all weekend; alas, I have been exhausted from the day job when I get home, like too tired to think). Also, an exciting (mysterious) project in the works! But I will save all this for another post ;)

Order of Crab Rangoon

I haven't been posting here on the blog, because I haven't been posting comics lately- just some Character Overviews on my Facebook Page. Once I figure out how I want to put them up here, I will do such. Also, I will have a rambly sort of blog post soon...but for now, this week's comic:

Dorkling Prints and Monster Wallets (+ hilarity)

Heeey-o!!
So...this post is not a comic. Sorry. (Not sorry). This is where I plug my handmade wares and all my comic prints and books. I mean, c'mon, I gotta eat. You may think that malnutrition would make me more random and hilarious, but...all it does is make me mean and stupid. So...Anyway, I've been in a sewing sort of mood lately, and made up some awesome monster wallets for utilization in a fashion type way...Here is a pic, and the link below that will take you to the listings and purchase info (and more pics!!):

Monster Wallets, hand sewn by Em!!

ALSO- I have a few assorted Dorkling prints listed! You can now have your very own little Emily at hand to make you smile! Hooray! I am slinging them individually for $5 apiece, or the entire set of all 6 prints for $23 (good deal, good deal, plus you save on shipping). So...Oh, yes, details: these are postcard size prints (4.25" x 5.6") on glossy 120lb cardstock. They are signed. And I rubbed my butt on all of them, too. Just kidding. That will of course cost you extra. So...check the prints, possibly purchase the prints, share the links to the prints, support your friendly neighborhood crazy girl!!
