Dorkling 2013 Wall Calendars!!

I cannot believe I pulled this off. I AM a magical unicorn magician lady. Yes, listen to me toot my friggen horn. I worked my patookah off. I must say, I am proud of myself, especially because I believe the material is solid.
What the hell am I talking about, anyway? A calendar! A Dorkling 2013 Wall Calendar to be exact! Let me blab about this for a minute...I just spent three days essentially by myself, eating whatever bugs crawled onto my desk, not sleeping, listening to waaay to much terrible music, so...forgive my excitement. ;)
ALL the art featured in this calendar is NEW- as in, I completed it THIS MORNING. It has been viewed by no one, and published nowhere but in this wall calendar. (I might make prints at some point down the road). But it's okay- you don't have to buy a copy to see the art! You can scroll through all the months and see each image at the link below the picture. Now, a word to heed- YES, I am allowing 100% free viewing of all my art, comics, and various other forms of entertainment. YES, sharing my work for free is my choice- sharing has always been my top priority with my work. HOWEVER...it would be *awfully sporting* of you if you would consider making a purchase (of my calendar or from one of my shops). Don't do it out of pity- I hate that crap! If you see something you like, though, and you have money, why not buy it? It's a huge compliment to me, and extremely helpful to my art and comic life. Alls I'm sayin is someone's got to feed the court jester, she can't dance on an empty stomach! ;) The calendar:

Remember, if you are looking at this and feeling pity for me, then you are looking at it all wrong. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"- but not so for Emily. My work is my play, and I am good at it. Maybe not great, but good is good enough for me. The only sadness here is that I have a humanoid body, and it needs to rest and fuel up and such. ;)

I will tell you that it's a bit of a cop-out, though, as it won't really start to make sense or be very funny until a few days in. Just fair warning. One joke spread over seven days. A Different Animal

There are a lot of times in my life where, I swear to god, people think I am some sort of magician, or superhero, or a miracle worker...Alas, I am none of these things. I can only work with what I have at hand. If that is crappy produce, a defunct word processing program, or $5 to my name for art supplies, so be it. I will find a way, which most likely will include lots of grumbling and some colorful language. And then I will draw a comic about my frustration:

Runcible Reality

This week's comic is of a literary nature...(ooh, fancy!)



So, the background on this piece- This is a different, and visual, version of Edward Lear's nonsense poem "The Owl and the Pussy Cat". Additionally, the word "runcible" was made up, and used frequently, by the author (mainly as an adjective, but there is no designated meaning for it). So, yeah, there, I just explained away my joke to the point of humorlessness. I just want you to know that I do actually read and tyhink about things other than work and myself. It doesn't happen often, though. ;)

I should also note that this is a full color illustration comic, and is available for purchase RIGHT HERE in my zombietoes shop! Save it from the zombies, they haven't had any flesh or brains in so long, they are turning to my comic art!! AHHH!!

Oh My GOSH YOU GUYS!! I am a total slacker. I have had this post in my head for over a week now, and am just now getting around to typing it up. I am not sure what has happened to me in the past few months, but it is becoming apparent that I am having issues with blog posting. I used to be so good about it, (talking here about my fantasy art blog- Darkling Treasures, back in the day). Perhaps it is the call of physical pen and paper that is louder than my keyboard now (this is not really a bad thing). So, anyway, I have a lot of crap to share. New art! New character overviews! New prints! And A public appearance too! Ahhh! Let me start with the art....

For fans of my FB page, this is not a new piece to you. But for those of you who are BUMS, you are seeing "Hal" for the first time! He is a hand pulled screen print that I made all on my own from one of my illustrations. I love him. LOVE! I've managed to get a batch of limited edition prints of Hal together (6 each of green and brown). You can get all the info and even get yourself a print at the link below the picture:

NOW...Public Appearance announcement time! Yeah, so, if you know me at all, you KNOW I never get out in public. To be honest, it is extremely overwhelming for me. I know, I probably just need to do it more often and get used to it. But I really get freaked out. So sue me. However, I will have a table at the Paint & Pixel Festival in Northampton, MA this October!! A WHOLE TABLE!! And, I am bringing one of the characters from my strip with me (well, four, actually, if you count me, G, and B, but I don't). I will be bringing some originals, Ralphies, prints in assorted sizes, and other random things...Check out the awesome at one or all of their links:

If the Shoe Fits

I've been in an effed up fairy-tale mood lately...weird.



Up to my eyeballs in projects, all flat surface area in my studio is covered, some things are stacked precariously, I've even set up a drying line complete with clothes pins in my bedroom...came in handy today when the drier crapped out on me. :\ Of course, said line being used for clothes drying put a damper on my production levels...fuh. It's always something.

I really wanted to actually COLOR with markers and ink and paint this week...so that is what I did! This is a tad off the general comic world of Dorkling, but still...



The original art is a full color illustration (pen, ink, pencils, acrylic) on 8.5" x 5.75" paper (it's vellum, 90lb if you need all that bullshit technical jargon) and it is AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE!! This is the very first time I have ever offered an original comic illustration for sale!! It probably will not happen that often!! I am having a bit of a poopy time in life right now. That is all fine and natural, an ebb and flow of good shit and bad shit. At least it is rarely stagnant shit. Yes. Get that mental image all up in your dome. Don't forget the smell.
Now...it is normally easy for me to look at the crap of life with a big ol' shit eating grin on my face, because I am a clown and that is what we fucking do. Laugh at shit. All the shit. I do this on a daily basis. Some days are easier than others. Some people and places and faces are easier than others. But what I am not so used to doing is translating this "negative humor" into something relative to most people and not...ugly. Something we can ALL laugh at. Because I do not wish to carry, use, or propagate negativity, really. I believe it to be more like a raw material, some unprocessed, uncured, uncut, potent energy that we are supposed to mold to our own best purposes. Not the EASIEST purposes, but the BEST ones.
Fuh...I am rambling, and it is getting preachy. Sorry. I guess what I am trying to say is that it is not always easy to be funny, but I try for the sake of consistency of output and my deep and ever-growing (although slightly narcissistic) love for this Dorkling monster I have created and continue to feed...Here's a picture:
